US Office of Naval Research launches Global-X Challenge focussed on polar science
The Defence Science Institute reports that the global arm of the US Navy’s Office of Naval Research, ONR Global, has called for white papers, followed by proposals if successful, from researchers in industry and academia around the world that address one or more of three specific capability challenges:
- Alternate Navigation at High Latitude
- High Latitude High Bandwidth Communications
- Persistent Polar Perception
The nine-month challenge is worth up to $500,000 and designed to stimulats ground breaking research from around the world. Multi-national, multi-disciplinary team are encouraged to participate. The purpose of the Global-X Challenge, of which this is part, is to discover, disrupt and ultimately provide a catalyst for later development and delivery of revolutionary capabilities to the US Navy and Marine Corps.
The deadline for submission of white papers is Friday, 28 May 2021
