ADF calls for autonomous and robotics technology proposals
The ADF’s Force Exploration Hub, located at ADF HQ, is seeking input from industry and academia to help develop an ADF Concept for Robotics and Autonomous Systems 2040. This concept will address the question: How will the ADF future force exploit Robotics and Autonomous Systems to gain advantages throughout the spectrum of conflict, and how can the ADF counter threats posed by Robotics and Autonomous Systems to the future force? This input reflects the vital role that industry partners play in the development of future capabilities, along with research and analysis by the academic sector.
For further information (such as the terms of reference) and to register your interest to contribute, contact force.exploration@defence.gov.au .
Expressions of interest close on 29 of May 2020. There will be an experimentation period in July and August; the final Concept will be published by Force Exploration Directorate, Joint Concepts, within ADF HQ on 13 November
The ADF acknowledges that early and regular collaboration can support a shared understanding of respective needs and expectations between it and industry partners. As part of this process, the Concept for Robotics and Autonomous Systems 2040 will determine how the ADF can work with industry employ and counter this emerging technology for strategic advantage. The Force Exploration Hub has three key messages for industry:
- It is looking to collaborate with partners in industry and academia to understand how the ADF can employ and counter Robotics and Autonomous Systems.
- Advice and assessments on how Defence can employ Robotics and Autonomous Systems are welcome.
- Industry perspectives on potential sources of risk (e.g. data, security and trust) and opportunities to develop innovative mitigation strategies will help deliver actionable outcomes.
